Kort Duce Photography bio picture

WELCOME TO MY BLOG!

I have been a professional photographer for 22 years.

For the past 10 years Idaho Falls, Idaho has been my home.

Action motorsports photography is my specialty, but I am also strong at editorial, commercial and industrial photography.

In my free time I love acrylic painting on large canvas.

Currently I am a photographer for Communication Designs, which contracts for the Department of Energy at the Idaho National Laboratory and the Idaho Cleanup Project. I have radworker II training and hazwoper certification. This permits me to enter Radiation Buffer Areas, Radiation Areas and Contaminated Areas.

On top of this I am the chief photographer for American Snowmobiler magazine and contract with Yamaha Snowmobiles to provide photography for new model sleds.

I spend part of my time raising my family. My schedule is fairly flexible, so if one plans I can meet almost any deadline.

“Be passionate about what you want to do in life. If you don’t have a passion it shows. My wife often teases me that I live, eat and breathe photography. I admit that I do, almost to a fault, but without that drive I would not be fortunate to be making a living doing what I love. Keep a good attitude, strive for excellence and always try to grow as a photographer and as a person.”

LODGE CATCHES FIRE!…NO ONE HURT!

This past week during the 2011 Yamaha Snowmobile photography event the main lodge (built in 1917) where we were staying caught fire. Thankfully no one was hurt. Most of the crew was staying in outbuildings that surround the main lodge. After doing a head count and making sure no one was in the lodge during...

YAMAHA SHOOT PROGRESS…

So far the 2011 Yamaha Snowmobile photography shoot has been awesome. Yesterday was probably my most productive day on snow for Yamaha ever. Blue bird sky + beautiful scenery + great riders = pretty epic day. At the end of the day as the sun was setting my friend and assistant Stephen Clark said, “We should...

LEAVING FOR THE 2011 YAMAHA SNOWMOBILE SHOOT…

Winter is finally here. Tomorrow I leave to photograph the 2011 Yamaha Snowmobiles in an undisclosed location in Wyoming. I could probably mention where it is taking place, but I really do not want to get fired! I’ll be gone from December 3-14, 2009. It should be a fun time. This year I have an...

HAPPY HOLIDAY SEASON!

Last weekend we drove to Missoula, Montana, to celebrate Thanksgiving with the Duce Clan. My parents just moved in to their new duplex they completely remodeled. Almost. They are still finishing some details. Beautiful place. Should have taken pictures, but was only there for 2 days. I did, however, haul all my lighting equipment and...

DUCE FAMILY VACATIONS: SUMMER 2009

This summer our family went on some wonderful family vacations to Montana. We started the summer at Flathead Lake and then drove to Aunt Barb’s ranch in Eastern Montana (Forsyth) for the 2009 Rolston Roundup over Memorial Day weekend. My father-in-law Alan Rolston drove up from Durango, CO. Can’t wait until next year! On July...

ORDERED 2 NEW ELINCHROM LIGHTING KITS!

After much research over the years and the last few weeks I finally found the perfect solution for my on-location lighting needs: Elinchrom Ranger RX Speed AS units. My friend Enrico Pavia uses Elinchroms extensively on-location and has nothing but good things to say about them. His advice weighed heavily on my decision. Other manufacturers,...

SWINE FLU WIPES OUT DUCE FAMILY!

You’ll have to excuse my lack of updates recently. On Halloween 2009 my son Finley and I started to come down with colds, which turned out to be the H1N1 Flu (Swine Flu). Even with all the precautions I mentioned in the last post we still got it. Last week was not a fun week....

FLU VACCINE PICTURES FOR POST REGISTER.

In late September 2009 I photographed 2010 flu vaccines for the Post Register’s Medical Guide. I setup my studio lights in an examine room at the Eastern Idaho Public Health District and waited for patients, or their parents, to consent and sign waiver forms so I could take pictures. This happened on a Friday that...

MEDIA NETWORK IDAHO: “COMMUNICATING IN A CHANGING WORLD”

On Saturday, October 24, 2009, I was asked to speak at a one-day workshop sponsored by Media Network Idaho. I asked myself, “What credentials do I have to talk to an audience about communicating in a changing world?” “Not much,” I thought to myself with doubt, but I am a successful freelance photographer, have started...
